Is this the oldest pinball on-site in the country? E-mail to pinball@wakey.com if you know better.

Spotted at Fab Cafe in central Leeds in December 2002 is this 1978 Star Wars machine.

It was a real surprise to see this machine in good operational order in a "retro" pub in the centre of Leeds.

It's well worth a visit to the pub because there is Galaxians, Star Wars and Phoenix video games too.

Playing this machine showed me just how much pinball has moved on - the table is very flat, there are no ramps etc, and the sound effects are very basic.

I remember playing a machine in 1982 called Haunted House - this was on three levels with loads of ramps etc, so pinball must have come on leaps and bounds between these dates.

One word of warning though - the machine is 50p per game, which will work out expensive, because there is a very large trap between the flippers that you cannot do a lot about.

The machine is located (as at December 2002) at Fab Cafe, 46 Woodhouse Lane, central Leeds - not too far from the Merrion Centre and the universities.
