Surprisingly, the New Inn is
the only pub in Walton on the southern outskirts of Wakefield. This is a
traditional 18th century inn, and is situated on the main road, Shay Lane.
From Tuesday to Saturday,
food is served between 12:00 and 2:00 and 5:00 and 9:30 in a separate part of
the pub that is reserved for diners. On Sunday, dining hours are 12:00 to 4:00 -
note that no food is served on Mondays. Reservations and enquiries can be made
on 01924-255447.
Examples are cajun chicken
(£5.85), salmon fillet (£5.85 also), poached haddock in prawn sauce (£6.95)
and 8oz fillet steak (£11.95). Between the hours of 12 and 2 and 5 and 7,
selected meals qualify for 'two courses for £6.50'. On Sundays, the Sunday
lunch costs £4.75, and there is a choice of beef, lamb, pork or ham. Any
starter or any desert can be purchased for just £2.
There are two weekly quizes
at the New Inn. On Sundays at 9, there are 30 (allegedly) easy questions, and
this quiz is free to enter. The following day, again at 9, there are 50 more
difficult questions. There is a small entry fee to Monday's quiz, but this goes
to charity.
