The British
Oak is on the A636 Denby Dale Road at Calder Grove. There is a good homely feel
to the pub, and hand-pull Tetleys, Pedigree and Calders on the bar.
The opening
hours are 11:30 am to 11 pm (Monday to Saturday), and 12 to 10:30 pm on Sundays.
Thursday is Karaoke night (9 o'clock start) - all entrants are entered into a
free raffle.
Wednesday night is quiz night
(9:30 start with an entry fee). The winner gets eight pints and runner up a
bottle of wine. There is a free supper for all entrants, and all proceeds go to
the Wakefield Hospice.
On the grub
front (all home made) there is Turkey, Ham and Leek pie (£5.25), Spanish Pork
Casserole (£5.30), Chicken Madras (£5.75) and Rogan Josh (£5.95). There are
Sunday lunches also.
Outside sees
some play equipment and sand pit for the children, together with many tables for
when the weather is better than when I visited.
